I founded and led Double Yolk, an online literary platform dedicated to featuring poets of color through original interviews and creative work. Our mission statement is as follows: We believe in the power and importance of diversity in the literary world. Through Double Yolk, I aimed to create space for deeper discussion of the artistic process and to celebrate the voices of diverse poets.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

At Double Yolk’s core was direct outreach to established poets of color, including University of Chicago professor Srikanth Reddy and published/forthcoming authors such as Jose Hernandez Diaz and Jasmine Khaliq. I wrote and conducted in-depth original interviews about each writer’s creative journey, influences, and practices. These conversations were designed not only to showcase original prose and poetry but to bring readers into the craft behind it, as well.

CREATIVE DIRECTION

In addition to featuring established poets, I directed and curated the publication process for emerging student work. I opened general submissions, reviewed poetry and prose entries, and selected pieces that amplified the voices of young and emerging writers. I also designed Double Yolk’s website, including a cohesive blue and yellow visual identity, original artwork, and a clean layout, ultimately shaping a digital space that felt both intentional and accessible for readers. Lastly, I directed Double Yolk’s social media presence across Instagram and Twitter, successfully expanding outreach to hundreds of followers.

PUBLICATION AND MEDIA

Double Yolk became both a publishing platform and a literary community, successfully showcasing the creative work and processes of underrepresented writers. This project also strengthened my professional skills across editorial strategy, interviewing, and creative directing, all whilst reflecting my broader interests in the intersection of art, writing, and business.
